Our system can be for volumetric seasoning applications, which can be upgraded to gravimetric if required. Everything is designed with the food processing industry in mind, so it is built to be easily washed down and is constructed in stainless steel where possible.

Using a standard flavour dosing of 5% powder and oil with a drum infeed max of 350Kg per hour of product, we can offer the below solution. This can be changed to meet your exact product specifications and requirements.

Vibratory Conveyors - Cox & Plant
Scarfed Vibratory Feeder

Superior to standard conveyor belts as they are quieter, more compact, more efficient, and much easier to clean and service. Our vibratory conveyors can reduce product breakage and are efficient due to less energy use.

With low maintenance machinery design and built as standard by the Cox & plant team, all future change parts are easily accessible. Our rubber oscillating isolation mounts or as C&P call them ‘anti-vibration mounts’ absorbing 99.7% of all vibration preventing transmitted vibration disturbance to structures or other equipment.

Seasoning Drum

Once the product comes off the conveyor it is dropped into the seasoning drum. The purpose of a seasoning drum is to gentle tumble the product as much as possible to ensure complete adhesion of the oil and powder.

PDS Food Seasoning
Powder Dispensing System (PDS)

One of the most important aspects of any seasoning system is the accurate and consistent application of both oil and powder. Powder is put into the hopper as shown right. It is important to stop “bridging” occurring so an agitating arms sweeps 180 degrees in the bowl to stop this.

Rather than use a motor we use a pneumatic cylinder which is less likely to damage or burn the powder. The powder is augered out of the bowl by a stainless screw that is driven by a servo motor.

The advantage or the servo is the wide range of speeds available which gives a near 1000 to 1 turndown ratio. Unlike other augers the screw does not have to be changed when going from a low throughput flavour (like salt) to a normal high throughput one.

The exploded image below shows how easy the system is to collapse and clean. The bowl is held on by 2 RJT nuts that can be removed easily by hand. All of the electronics and safety switches are fixed on the back frame and all the dirty parts come away for easy cleaning.

This is very important when it comes to allergen control since it can demonstrated that there are no crevasses where dirt can remain. It also means that when changing from a strong flavour (like chili) to something else there is no risk of contamination and the turnaround time is as quick as possible. It is even possible to have a second bowl on standby to make changes nearly instant.

There is an optional extra of a 90-degree swivelling mount for the powder auger that allows for easy cleaning and maintenance. The scarf is fixed in place and the drum wheels out of the way for cleaning.

Oil Application System

For products like tortilla chips, pellets, sheeted or extruded products with a low oil content it is necessary to add a small amount of oil to the surface of the snack to ensure complete adhesion of powder to them.

Our oil spray system is outstanding in that it is the most accurate, hygienic and controllable system on the market. The oiler is completely stand alone in its control, or by plugging into the drum panel it can be completely integrated and controlled from the main HMI.

  • Very wide range of flows possible (20L/hr per nozzle)

  • Ultrasonic level probe showing oil tank contents on the machine HMI
  • Can operate as a stand-alone machine if required
  • Stainless spill bund or open bund options.
  • Various tank sizes available from 30L to 120L (80L quoted)

This is for 1 nozzle which can do up to 20L/hr of vegetable oil and you can add up to 4. If you require more than 4 a second controller will be required in the panel as well.

Main Control System

The drum, scarf, powder auger and oiler can all be controlled from 1 central control panel which has a full colour 12” HMI. This can be customised to your specification and integrate with any upstream or downstream equipment.
